| Sky Diving from Space | Monday, March 5 Rodd Millner, a sky diver and former army reservist from Austrailia, plans to sky dive from the edge of space in March of 2002. He would ride a hot air baloon up to 130,000 feet and jump using a pressurized space suit. He will reach speeds up to 1,118 mph, becoming the first human to break the sound barrier by merely falling. The fall will take about 10 minutes, but he may get beaten to the drop as a high altitude sky-diving team in the United States hopes to attempt a similar jump this year. | | |
| USS Ronald Reagan Christened | Monday, March 5 The USS Ronald Reagan, the 9th Nimitz Class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, was christened by Nancy Reagan on Sunday. President George W. Bush was the principal speaker at the ceremony. The ship, which features several new technologies, will be launched about a week after the christening, and is still two years away from joining the fleet. The ship will be 1,092 feet long, will carry 6,000 sailors and 80 planes, will cruise at speeds of over 30 knots, and will have cost $4 billion | | |
| Chicago WhiskyFest | Wednesday, March 7 Chicago's first WhiskyFest will be held on March 21 at the Hyatt Regency. The event will feature tasting of expensive and rare products as well as new releases. Tickets are available for $65 per person. | | |
| Parachutist injures beer vendor at coleslaw wrestling match | Friday, March 9 During a women's coleslaw wrestling match during Florida's Bike Week, a parachutist went off target and landed on a beer vendor, sending her to the hospital. The coleslaw wrestling match is an annual Bike Week event at Sopotnick's Cabbage Patch bar in Samsala, Florida. The parachutist was hired to land in the arena, but was blown off course by high winds. | | |
| 2002 Ford SVT Focus | Friday, March 9 Car and Driver is reporting on the new 2002 Ford SVT Focus. The new Focus is made by Ford's Special Vehicle Team, the same group that makes the Mustang Cobra. The SVT Focus will feature a revised 2.0-liter 4-cyliner engine, producing 170 horsepower with a 7500 rpm redline. The tranmission will be a six-speed manual and estimated zero-to-sixty time is seven seconds. Expected price for the car is $18,500. | | |

| Maxim May Overtake Playboy as Most Popular Men's Mag | Thursday, March 15 Maxim magazine, which was first released in the US less than four years ago, may soon be the most popular men's magazine in America. The magazine sells more than 1 million issues per month on the newsstand, nearly twice as many as Playboy, and its circulation is 2.5 million and growing, compared to 3.2 million for Playboy. Maxim also plans to continue branching out with at least three new publications this year. | | |
