Playboy made the news a couple times in the past couple of weeks.

First, in a move that seems to follow a long run of questionable moves related to the Internet, they announced that they are going to start a “Safe For Work” web site, called The Smoking Jacket, to compete with Maxim, Stuff and Esquire.

Just what the web needs, another web site devoted to content guys will find interesting (other than porn).

Of course, their articles have always had a reputation for being solid reading–but I’m not sure most workplaces will get past the stigma.

At the same time, they’ve also announced that they’re following Hollywood’s latest trend, and will go with a 3D centerfold in the June issue (hit stands yesterday?). No word on how the image(s) will translate to being scanned and put on the web–but I’m sure we’ll find out.

Former Girl Next Door Kendra Wilkinson also made the news this week for threatening to sue someone for trying to sell commercially copies of a gang bang movie she made years back–apparently the same movie she tried herself to sell a couple years back. I’d link to an article, but I don’t have the energy or desire to find anything related to that story again.

I generally hate reality shows. I’m generally not a Mark Cuban fan. Put the two together, and you get…a travesty.

At least at first. But Cuban, or at least his HDNet network, is taking another stab–and this time they may hit a home run.

The series is titled “Girls Gone Wild Presents: Search for the Hottest Girl in America.” It will run for 12 weeks starting next week as part of HDNet’s “Guys Night in” lineup.

I generally think that a “Guys Night In” concept is…well, stupid. But if they have a lineup of shows like this, and they do it right, they might have a winner–other than the fact that if they do it right, it would have to be on a premium channel level (might be anyway?), and most woman in their right minds…well…let’s just say a lot of wives wouldn’t appreciate it.

Illusion Gentleman’s Club on Long Island is starting to charge a voluntary surcharge on admission, funds from which will go to help restore some of the after school activities. Former “Long Island Lolita” Amy Fisher will be among those dancing for the weekend.

A stripper pole tax was introduced in Texas in 2007, and has so far raised more than $13.6 million. I wonder if local governments have considered using this type of tax to fund new sports stadiums?

Scientists at a German University recently published the results of a study that confirmed that men really are better at parking–straight on or parallel, and actually are still quicker at it than women as well.

Particularly interesting was that the co-author of the study was a woman–Dr. Claudia Wolf–who took on the study in part because of the he number of chauvinistic comments she encountered about women drivers.

While I normally find studies of this nature to be pointless, the fact that it (probably) didn’t cost US Taxpayers anything, combined with the fact that it proves something I’ve long suspected but never been able to convince my wife of means I’m all in favor of it this time.

More than 10 years after separating from wife Kimberly Conrad Hefner, Playboy founder Hugh Hefner has filed for divorce.

Hefner is asking a judge to order him to pay $20,000 per month in spousal support–half what he is currently paying–for two years, or until a divorce trial can be completed.

Hef and Kimberly Conrad were married in 1989, the same year she was named Playmate of the Year. They separated in 1998, and Kimberly moved into a house that Hefner owned directly next door to the famed Playboy Mansion, where Hefner has lived with numerous girlfriends in recent years, as chronicled in E!’s reality TV series “The Girls Next Door.”

Records show that Conrad Hefner, who had two sons with Hef, filed for divorce around the time of separation, but that petition was later withdrawn. She sued him last month, claiming he owed her more than $4 million under the terms of their prenuptial agreement, and from proceeds from the sale of the house next to the mansion earlier this year.

Hef told TMZ that he had been happy to get the divorce at the time of the separation, but that he had remained married at the request of Conrad Hefner, for the sake of their sons.

With the launch of the 3.0 iPhone from Apple comes an important development in the long term future of the medium–the ability to download a porn application (yes, there finally is an app for that).

Previous versions of the iPhone did not allow pornographic material, going so far as to block an app that allowed for book downloads because it could be used to download the Kama Sutra.

However, this new version of the iPhone allows for age restrictions on apps–so if some kid is dumb enough to say he isn’t over 17, he won’t be able to download the Hottest Girls app, which features “2200+ images of topless, sexy babes and nude models.”

Unfortunately, Wired magazines strangely detailed review of the app (where do I get THAT job?) says the app is pretty much terrible, from a porn connoisseur’s point of view–but now that the word is out, you know that there will be other companies looking to take advantage.
